Hello, and welcome!

I’m MAKO, the creator of Why Hokkaido.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

I currently live in Sapporo, Hokkaido, one of Japan’s most exciting cities. Before moving to Sapporo, I grew up in Obihiro, a beautiful city in eastern Hokkaido.

Although Sapporo is famous for its vibrant city life, delicious food, and winter festivals, Obihiro holds a special place in my heart. The endless Tokachi Plain, relaxing atmosphere, and incredible local food make it one of my favorite places in Japan.

I Love Exploring Hokkaido

One of my biggest hobbies is driving.

Whenever I have time, I travel around Hokkaido to discover new places, beautiful scenery, and delicious local food.

I’ve visited many parts of Hokkaido, including Wakkanai, Japan’s northernmost city, and Cape Soya, the northernmost point of Japan.

Every trip reminds me how incredibly diverse Hokkaido is.

Each season offers something unique—from colorful flower fields in summer to breathtaking snowy landscapes in winter.

Camping Is My Favorite Way to Relax

I also love camping.

Hokkaido is one of the best places in Japan for outdoor adventures.

After spending the day exploring nature, nothing feels better than sitting around a campfire under a sky full of stars while enjoying a cold Sapporo Classic, a beer that can only be found in Hokkaido.

Those peaceful moments are one of the reasons I love living here.

Why Did I Start This Blog?

Every year, millions of travelers visit Hokkaido.

Many people come for the beautiful scenery, amazing seafood, powder snow, and hot springs.

But I believe there’s another side of Hokkaido that makes every trip even more meaningful.

It’s the stories behind the places.
